How do you know if you have a Yeast Infection

It is the signs and symptoms of a yeast infection or candida that are going to be what alert you that you may in fact have something wrong with you, and so it is thus very important to know not only about the more common symptoms of yeast infections but as well the less common, so that you will be able to tell if and when at any point you have a yeast infection.

Taking care of your health is obviously incredibly important, and because yeast infections are common among both men and women, this makes it that much more important to be knowledgeable and sensitive to the subject.

A common symptom of a yeast infection in women is vaginal discharge.  This discharge generally has the consistency and color–thick and whitish/yellowish–of cottage cheese.  Also take note of the smell, which may be sour, starchy, or completely absent in some cases.

Men, on the other hand, do not experience this discharge.  In fact, yeast infections in men tend to be completely asymptomatic, so they may be infected for an extended period of time without even knowing it.

Another of the most common symptoms of a yeast infection in women is a vaginal burning or itching sensation, particularly after urination. This symptom often times makes women mistake the ailment as being a urinary tract infection, however the way to tell the difference is by figuring out where it hurts while you are urinating. If it hurts during urination, then you have a urinary tract infection, because the pain is located inside, whereas if it where a yeast infection it would burn outside, around the vaginal opening.

Painful sexual intercourse is another of the telltale symptom of a yeast infections, and this is also one of the most problematic because if you are not aware that you have a yeast infection and you are having sexual intercourse, then you are passing the infection on. This happens a lot of the time, because it usually takes a while for most people to even have a clue that they actually have a yeast infection.

These are just the most basic symptoms of a yeast infection or candida, and so just because you don’t end up experiencing just the signs and symptoms listed here, that does not mean that you do not have a yeast infection. Keep yourself informed and knowledgeable on your health, see your doctor frequently, and if at any time you experience any of the symptoms mentioned here or any similar to these, you want to get yourself in to see a doctor.
